I received a bluetooth Oral-B toothbrush as a gift. Seeing it had bluetooth, my first thought was they would use this connection and the brush to monitor where you’re brushing, time, etc. Really, this app is just a glorified timer, and a buggy one. It’s lost data multiple times in the first week of use. It doesn’t actually provide any useful feedback. Like, “you’re brushing these teeth too much, not enough here, not enough on the inside, etc”. Data that could actually be helpful in making sure you’re brushing everywhere enough. Yes, the timer screen can have a 4 or 6 area breakdown you can look at but the brush isn’t “smart” at all. It doesn’t know if you’re actually following the instructions in the app.
There is no point for a bluetooth brush that doesn’t actually log data that can help you brush better. Most people who buy expensive electric brushes like this already know if they brush multiple times a day, use mouthwash, floss. Little check boxes in an app indicating you’ve completed these tasks are not useful. Actual feedback about your brushing using onboard data (accelerometers) would be useful.
